INTERNATIONAL PHILANTHROPY

"I cannot allow myself to be insensitive to the wrongs and sufferings of any part of the great family of man."                 ----Frederick Douglass

CROSS BORDER GIVING
Global giving has become important to many philanthropists and charities.  If a U.S. citizens gives to an international cause through an organization that is registered with the IRS, you will receive a charitable tax deduction.  If you contribute to an international cause through an organization that is not registered as tax-exempt with the IRS, you will not receive a tax deduction without additional substantiation.

There are several options available to U.S. citizens, foundations and corporations interested in international grantmaking that do not require this additional substantiation.   These include:

•U.S. 501(c)(3) Organizations
•“Friends of” Organizations
•Donor-Advised Funds
•Direct Cross-Border Grants

Whether you wish to give to a US qualified organization or make a direct cross-border gift, we can help.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

The IRS issued this Letter on International Grantmaking.

Another great resource is The Council on Foundations, the information on their International Grantmaking page is instructive for both foundations and individual donors.
